Ella Jade I’ve been a writer my whole life. As a child, I had an active imagination. The stories and plots have always played out in my head but I never knew what to do with them. I have books filled with stories. Writing has been my escape for as long as I can remember but I never knew what to do with my tales. That all changed when I discovered the eBooks industry. Becoming a published author has affected my life in many positive ways. Getting the opportunity to work with so many talented publishers and editors has helped me perfect my craft. In the two years since I took the plunge and started submitting my work, I’ve become a stronger writer. I’m learning to take more risks and explore some sub-genres that I have never tried before. Good morning everyone, please welcome our special guest Melissa Kendall who has taken a few moments out of her busy schedule to share some insight into who she is and her writing.   1.When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? I've always been a writer I guess but I made the decision to give being a published author a go about eighteen months ago. 2. How long does it take you to write a book? Far longer than it should. When I have a good flow going I can get about 1000-1500 words written an hour. 3. What is your work schedule like when you're writing? I don't really have a schedule I have to work around my four year old so my writing is very sporadic. 4. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? 1. What drew you to writing, and why did you pick the genre you write i I grew up in the pre-computer era. If you wanted factual information you found it in paper books and newspapers. The "Word" was powerful and depending on how you used the words, could influence peoples attitudes and behavior. I realized this before I was nine years old when I decided I wanted to pursue journalism. By the time I was in 8th grade, I published a weekly newsletter of local and upcoming events. Since we didn't have copy machines, I mimeographed my newsletter. I had a readership of over a hundred subscribers paying a dime to me each week.  Big bucks in that era. I continued to work pro-bono as an editor or journalist in high school, college, and in my professional organizations gaining experience in publishing. So, what motivated you to write in the genre you write in? CC: Ever since I was little I have loved to read.  In elementary school, I'd rather read Nancy Drew mysteries than play in the playground.  Nerd right?  In eighth grade for an assignment I wrote a descriptive essay and was placed in the honors Literature and English classes in High School. At that time I had visions of becoming a best selling author but my favorite subjects were science and math.  Nerd again!  I majored in Chemistry and Biology in college, went on to become the president of a laboratory network, and wrote numerous research and technical documents, but in all of my spare time continued to read any mystery/suspense novel I could.  I always jokingly said one day I would write a book.  My fami...

Four or five years ago I had the pleasure of having a piece flogged by Mr. Rhamey - and I have to say it was one of the most emotional, most wrenching experiences of my life because I was new, I had visions of my great talent and skill, and had the ego of a newbie. So when he gave me his thoughts I was torn...but I realized inshort order that what he said made sense. Not only did I take what he said to heart - but I went on to revamp things and I have to admit that the book he flogged, that I had nearly thrown out, went on to be contracted, published, and made the number 1 best seller list for Champagne books in May of 2009.
