Promo or bust?

I've been lucky enough to be published for over five years now, with multiple books available. It hasn't always been easy, juggling family, friends, work, and writing can be trying at the best of times but when you throw in the biggest chunk of time...well it can be trying. I'm not talking research or signings, or readings, or writing...no I'm talking about something else. Something many of us cringe at the thought of doing. Promoting ourselves. To be successful, we can't sit on our laurels and wait for readers to find us. The internet is a massive place, full of twists, turns, and black holes. To be recognized one must do whatever they can to be noticed. Many new authors hear about the latest thing in social networking - and jump on the bandwagon. I'd be the first to admit that I count myself in that club. Try it all and see what works. However, by the time you've joined, created a place for yourself, and become noticed...your readers are sitting there ...

Moonlight at Water's Edge

Moonlight streaked across the rolling waves. Warm water lapped at her ankles as she stared out over the water. Hot, sultry, the winds tangled in her hair, kissing her neck. Kneeling, she dropped the single red rose in the surf, the flower blurred by the tears in her eyes. A hand pressed against her abdomen, the band of gold cool against her flesh. Beneath her touch, her baby kicked. Laughing through her tears, she turned to stroll back along the wet sand to the lawn chair open beneath the palm trees. “Tears? Are you sad, this night my love?” She smiled at the warmth and devotion in the rich baritone. Lifting her hand she clasped his hand, pulling him closer. “How can I be sad this night, my darling? We’re together and we will always be now. Nothing can separate us.” “To eternity then,” he handed her a frosty glass and tapped its rim with his own. “To eternity, love, and our son.” “To love and our son.” She sipped at the spicy fruit drink, her eyes on the waves. Yes, ...

Please welcome David Brown

Our special guest today is David Brown, author of Fezariu's Epiphany. David M. Brown was born in Barnsley in 1982 and first conceived the idea of Elenchera in college. His love of history and English led him to read these subjects at Huddersfield University. David is inspired by medieval history, Norse mythology and Japanese role-playing video games and anime films. He lives in Huddersfield with his wife Donna and their six rescue cats. Welcome to Of Ink And Quille Thanks for having me. As an author, what scares me the most... I call myself a fantasy writer and that’s what I’d always like to be. However, with the novels set in Elenchera I am trying to do something a little different with the genre. Does the sci-fi/fantasy genre need improving? I don’t think so, but what I want to do is make it more accessible to other readers. This is a venture I may not succeed in but I will certainly try my best and just see what happens. My debut novel, Fezariu’s Epiphany , enco...

Have another coffee the good stuff is here!

Welcome back Pembroke, Margaret, hope those chairs are comfy. Your readers have put together some questions for you...   What made you pick your genre? PS:   I write in several different genres, including western, science fiction, fantasy, horror and nonfiction, and really, I just write whatI feel like .  Sometimes a story will be more insistent than others, so I writethat and get it out of the way. MK:  I am deeply interested in various paranormal and mystical subjects and  have been for years.  My interests include reincarnation, out of body  experiences, out of body travel, near death experiences, ghosts, after  death contact, UFOs, alien abduction, ESP and more.  It is natural for  me to think in these terms, so often my writing includes those  subjects.  Both of my novels have been about reincarnation and my  short stories are often SF, magic realism or mystical.
